Keith Ambachtsheer

Keith played a major role in the founding of the Rotman International Centre for Pension Management (ICPM). In April 2005, he was appointed the Director of ICPM and Adjunct Professor of Finance at The Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. He is responsible for the management, administration and external representation of the Centre and also leads the charge for shaping and executing the Center's research agenda and discussion forums.

After spending three years in the Canadian Forces, Keith became an investment analyst with Sun Life Assurance Company, advanced as a partner and research director at Canavest House, and became co-founder and partner of Pension Finance Associate. He has operated his own firm, K.P.A. Advisory Services since 1985.

A respected author, researcher, and commentator on pensions and investment topics, Keith recently received the University of Toronto Arbor Award for volunteer service in founding ICPM at the Rotman School of Management. In 2003, he was named One of the 30 Most Influential People by Pension and Investments Magazine in the USA. His drive for research excellence has won him several notable awards including four Graham and Dodd Scrolls and two Roger Murray Awards. 

His articles appear regularly in the Financial Analysts Journal, the Journal of Portfolio Management, and other professional journals. Keith has authored two critically acclaimed books, Pension Funds and the Bottom Line, (Dow Jones-Irwin 1986) and Pension Fund Excellence - Creating Value for Stakeholders (with Don Ezra, John Wiley & Sons, 1998) that have both been translated into Japanese. His third book, Pension Revolution, is slated for publication in early 2007. Keith issues The Ambachtsheer Letter, which is subscribed to by a global list of corporate, public sector, investment, and consulting firm clients.

Keith's role in advancing research and providing strategic advice on governance, finance, and investment around the world is evidenced in his industry contributions. He speaks regularly on finance and investment topics at universities and corporate events, and is the co-founder of CEM Benchmarking, which monitors the organizational performance of 300 of the developed world's largest DB and DC pension funds. Keith sits on a number of organizational boards and is the past President of the Association of Canadian Pension Management (ACPM). 

Keith earned his undergraduate degree in Commerce and Economics from the Royal Military College of Canada, M.A. in Economics from University of Western Ontario, and completed coursework for his PhD in Economics at McGill University.
